I am …

working towards a coherence, A ‘finished’ thing. Most of the good stuff happens when you are rolling, when you are not looking, its a little frenzied, anxious even. a duel with your belief in yourself and your many failures i guess.

When I work I try to stay in the moment, I guess thats a fancy way of saying trust your instincts because your Intellect gets in the way. Most days you do not achieve this very well, other days you succeed and then you stop, that is a good day.

I see the process as a line. On one side of the line is the banal, the feeble, the badly conceived, On the other side things are crude, in bad taste or boorish. The line itself is the solution…

When working I am pushing the elements closer to the heat of the line and trying to avoid moving too close to the vulgar or indelicate.

Alan Watts said “There is no onus on us to be the same person we were five minutes ago” – this resonates with me. as humans we seem to have worked ourselves into a corner. I love mankind, It would be nice if I could help them out in some small way.

I draw my inspiration from popular culture, TV and cinema. I am very curious and I take very little at face value. I like to understand the whys and wherefores of things, I like to get behind the curtain and meet the wizard.

I am interested in the visual aspect of traveling and movement, the car lights the blurred trees, the sun flashing through the fencing. I like eyelid movies, psychology and philosophy. I particularly like the work of Maurizio Cattalan, he gets it and of course R.D. Laing, amongst others.

It’s about intention I suppose, if you are honest with yourself and determined, the gods will join you on the dance floor.

On a summers day you still might find me lying on the grass looking at the sun through a blanket.
